The Global Peace Foundation Kenya in partnership with Oracle Academy extended the annual Transforming Education Computing Bootcamp, targeting higher learning institutions educators. The event was hosted at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), on 28th March, 2024.

The facilitators of the program led by Mr. William Mcrae – Principal Instructor, Oracle Academy, EMEA, Mr. Benjamin Tua Senior Technical Consultant (Data Science & Analytics) and Ms. Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy, Program Manager, gave an in-depth elaboration on how higher learning educators can capitalize on Oracle Academy Cloud Program & Data Science Curriculum; Oracle Live Labs Overview; and Analytics & Machine Learning with Red Bull Racing Live Lab Demo to enhance their teaching skills.

The 5-hour practical hybrid training attended by educators from different institutions, also offered an opportunity for educators to enroll as members of Oracle Academy in order to access free teaching and learning resources. Moreover, the workshop is part of Oracle’s global philanthropic program that involves computing education to increase knowledge acquisition, skills development, innovation and diversity in education.

Dr. Lawrence Nderu, Chairman, Department of Computing, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, acknowledged the efforts put in place by the Global Peace Foundation Kenya and Oracle Academy to close the gaps in technology application at the tertiary level. As the chairman, he promised that the institution will consistently capitalize on the available resources to simplify, advance and improve on knowledge delivery at the classroom setup.

Addressing the forum, Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi, Executive Director, Global Peace Foundation Kenya, expressed his contentment on how the training was conducted and appreciated every one for participating in actualizing the same. He highlighted key programs that the GPF-Kenya engages in with other partners in education as pillars of peacebuilding, liberation and civilization.

The training is in line with the Global Peace Foundation’s Transforming Education in the Global South: Toward 2050 Campaign, which aims at nurturing holistic educators and students, moral and innovative leaders and creation of great institutions. Educators play significant roles in teaching by enhancing the mindset of the students to be positive during classroom sessions in order to unleash the creativity in them.
