The need to re-align and modernize higher learning education in Kenya is a great concern and cannot be underrated or undermined in this 21st century. Educators in Kenya and across the globe have, over the years shown desire to adopt and impress modern technology and innovations in their duties of training new scientists, engineers, ICT developers and other individuals undertaking courses along the same line.
However, research has shown that there are few or limited institutions or experts which can offer latest skills, knowledge and innovative ways of solving world’s emerging problems. This is why Oracle Academy in collaboration with Global Peace Foundation Kenya was privileged to conduct the first training on transforming education computing boot camp for Kenyan tertiary educators, courses which were offered virtually on 25th-26th March 2021.
The boot camp was attended by an average of 100 educators from the Information Communication Technology and Engineering departments from more than 26 higher learning institutions across the country. This special virtual training was graced by:
–Mr. Martin Waigwa, Principal Technology Architect, East Africa
–Mr. Rufus Waithaka, Senior Technology Architect, Oracle Kenya
–Mr. Dominic Juma, Principal Technology Solutions Consultant, Oracle Kenya
The trio took the educators through the following topics in line with the departments they work in:
-Bytes – Hands On Lab – Intermediate/Advanced: Oracle Analytics Cloud
-Bytes – Hands On Lab – Intermediate: Linux Web Services – Oracle Cloud Compute VM – Install Apache and PHP
Despite the fact that the training was offered when education calendar was on session, the huge number of attendants was impressive and promising for a future need to organize more trainings of the similar nature to equip the educators with latest ideas and advancements in their line of duty which they can disseminate to other learners to adopt in their daily practices.
Global Peace Foundation Kenya under the leadership of the Country Director, Mr. Daniel Juma in collaboration with Oracle Academy Country Programme Manager Sub Saharan Africa Ms. Sefunmi Durojoye, promised in their closing remarks of the event to continue with similar trainings in future as a way of transforming education in higher institutions and preparing learners to fit the latest job market requirements and demands.
