Education inclusivity remains a significant concern to many education -based organizations and governments across the world. The need to offer equal opportunity to all learners to explore their academic and extra – curriculum potentials is a dream worth pursuing.
To effectively take part in the realization of such a vision, The Global Peace Foundation Kenya education program manager, Ms. Maureen Kemunto, joined the management of UPTYKE Education during the official launch of UPTYKE APP. This is a revolutionary digital content platform aimed at empowering learners with disabilities.
The initiative which is supported by iHub and MasterCard Foundation, EdTech Fellowship will significantly enhance access to education to learners with disabilities including intellectual disability, hearing and visual impairments, Autism among others. The content is available in both English and Kiswahili to ensure learners can flexibly choose their preferred language of gaining knowledge and skills.
Addressing the event, keynote speaker Ms. Sheila Lutta, Assistant Director of Education in the Ministry of Education and Director of Special Needs Education, elaborated on strides made by the ministry in promoting inclusive education in Kenya.
She expressed that Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has so far reviewed their curriculum to incorporate contents that support friendly education to students living with a range of disability challenges. Her sentiments were also echoed by Ms. Lilian Mutegi, Founder and CEO Uptyke, who expressed her desire to continue working with various education stakeholders in ensuring that disability is not used as an inability to access education.
We endeavor to work closely with the education stakeholders to nurture moral and innovative leaders who can help achieve education that can fully unlock the potential of learners holistically.
