On May 12, 2025, Global Peace Foundation Kenya, in collaboration with Chandaria Foundation, KCB Foundation, and Brookshine Schools, spearheaded a transformative tree planting initiative at Brookshine School in Joska. This impactful event brought together students, educators, and community stakeholders in a united effort to advance environmental conservation and climate action.

More than 2,000 trees were planted during the exercise, signaling a strong commitment to Kenya’s national goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032. The event wasn’t just about planting trees—it was about sowing seeds of hope, responsibility, and sustainability in the hearts of young leaders.

In his keynote address, Daniel Juma Omondi, Africa Regional Representative of the Global Peace Foundation, reminded attendees that “trees are the lungs of our planet,” reinforcing the message that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility. He emphasized that each tree planted is a step closer to a healthier, greener Kenya.

Brookshine School’s leadership echoed this sentiment. Principal Mr. Patley noted, “It takes seconds to plant one tree, but the impact lasts a lifetime.” Director Beatrice Kimani further underscored the long-term vision of the initiative, stating that tree planting is not just an environmental act, but a commitment to the future—where people, profit, and planet can thrive in harmony.

From the partners, Teddy Orach of KCB Foundation emphasized the deeper meaning of the initiative: “Today, we are not just planting trees—we’re planting hope.” Vincent Rapando of Chandaria Foundation challenged students to think big and act boldly: “If 700 of you plant just two trees each, you become part of a million-tree legacy.”

Adding a leadership perspective, Grace Maganga, a President’s Fellow, called on young people to embrace service as a foundation of leadership: “Leadership starts with action—and there is no greater action than serving your community and planet.” Meanwhile, Arthur, representing the Family Peace Association, shared insights on the value of service-learning in cultivating environmentally responsible citizens from a young age.

This event represents more than a single-day activity—it is a sustained pledge to environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, and community collaboration. Through its Environment Programme, Global Peace Foundation Kenya is dedicated to nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious leaders by working directly with schools and community groups.
