Global Peace Foundation Kenya joined a high-level preparatory meeting convened in Nairobi to deliberate on the upcoming Fifth International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration (SSD), scheduled for 25 – 26 November 2025. The conference will mark a decade of global commitment to protecting education during armed conflict under the theme: “Safe Education for All: A Decade of Commitment, A Call to Action through the Safe Schools Declaration.”
Representing GPF-Kenya were Mr. Michael Gitau, Communications & Media Officer, and Ms. Lynn Oduor, Education Program Associate, who engaged with national, regional, and international partners to discuss Kenya’s role as host country and the collective strategies needed to strengthen safe education.
The preparatory dialogue, co-led by the Government of Kenya, UNICEF, UNESCO, and the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), brought together civil society, international agencies, and technical experts to review the conference objectives, agenda, and Nairobi Action Plan – the landmark outcome document expected from the November convening
The November conference is expected to attract heads of state, ministers, UN agencies, civil society leaders, and youth advocates. It will culminate in the adoption of the Nairobi Action Plan, outlining concrete steps to safeguard education, promote accountability, and align with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
