Nairobi, Kenya — 11 December, 2025. As Africa and the global community transition into a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy, young learners in Kenya continue to face barriers in accessing practical digital skills, entrepreneurial training, and values-based leadership development. In response to these pressing needs, the Global Peace Foundation Kenya today celebrated the graduation of 18 LEAP HUBs students from Makini Schools, marking a significant milestone in strengthening future-ready education.

Traditional education systems often struggle to cultivate creativity, innovation, and problem-solving in young people. The LEAP HUBs program bridges this gap by transforming schools into active centres of digital learning, entrepreneurship, and character formation. Through a comprehensive approach combining hands-on lessons, project-based learning, a rigorous business development bootcamp, and a one-month mentorship program, students gain vital exposure to STEM, entrepreneurship, communication, and leadership skills essential for navigating today’s complex world.

“Education today must equip young people with both competence and character. LEAP HUBs is designed to inspire innovation while grounding students in strong values. This combination strengthens individuals, schools, and ultimately the nation,” said Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi, GPF Kenya Country Director and Africa Regional Representative of the Global Peace Foundation.

The 2025 LEAP HUBs cohort demonstrated exemplary achievements during the graduation ceremony, including:

  1. Successful pitching of innovative business ideas
  2. Mastery of foundational digital literacy and creative technology tools
  3. Development of projects that showcase critical thinking and innovation
  4. Strengthened leadership, communication, and teamwork competencies
  5. Increased confidence to pursue STEM and entrepreneurship opportunities

These outcomes align with Kenya’s broader aspirations of nurturing a competitive, empowered, and values-driven generation capable of driving socio-economic transformation. By equipping young learners at an early stage, the LEAP HUBs program cultivates a pipeline of future leaders who can think critically, collaborate effectively, and co-create solutions for their communities and the nation.

Makini Schools continues to be a committed partner in implementing the program, providing a dynamic environment where learners can explore, innovate, and thrive. GPF Kenya remains dedicated to sustaining this impact through continuous mentorship, capacity strengthening, and program monitoring to ensure long-term success.

The graduation ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including Mr. Geoffrey Odhiambo, General Manager – Makini Schools; Mrs. Jackline Aminga, Principal – Makini Schools; Ms. Emmaculate M. O, Career Advisor – Makini Schools; Mr. Vincent Ayako, Resource Mobilization and Strategic Partnership Manager – GPF Kenya; Mrs. Maureen Kemunto, Education Program Manager – GPF Kenya; GPF Kenya staff; and parents of the 18 accelerated innovators, all celebrating this important milestone in the students’ learning journey.
