Nairobi, Kenya 21st August 2015 – 18 girls from 3 Leap Hub schools within Nairobi including: Kariobangi North Girls High School, Maina Wanjigi Secondary School and Embakasi Girls Secondary School, participate in Intel’s “My Digital Journey” program that has been customized to empower young girls in schools in the field of technology. This is part of the “She will Connect” program by Intel that recently merged with Global Peace Foundation’s Leap Hubs program which is run in schools to empower youth with first hand skills needed in the 21st century.
Organized by Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Intel Kenya and Youth Banner, the training drew international volunteers from Seattle in the United States of America and Germany who trained the students on how to create their online profiles, find leaning resources and internet security. The students were also taken through a mentor-ship session where they were guided on how to choose their career paths and became successful.
“I now know a lot of things regarding internet safety,” said one of the students from MainaWanjigi Secondary School. “Thanks to the facilitators I can now create my profile, access information and create useful content for others,” She concluded.
This was mainly a testing phase for The “My Digital Journey” software that is still under development by Intel. On completion the program will be launched in Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria among other countries. Intel has been in the run to empower and support women technology to not only be content consumers but also content creators.
