The future of entrepreneurship looks bright in Kenya as hundreds of high school students were celebrated at the 2023 WavumbuziKE Entrepreneurship Challenge Awards Ceremony. The event took place on November 29th, 2023 at the Edge Convention Centre, South C, Nairobi, Kenya, and was a part of the larger Kenya Innovation Week festivities.
The Allan and Gill Gray Phillanyhropy, headed by their Kenya Country lead Dr. Roselyne Marandu Kareithi, organized the event. The Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge is a six-week online program designed to foster an entrepreneurial culture among the country’s youth. The initiative nurtures key competencies such as innovation, proactive action, resilience, problem-solving skills, and value-based leadership.
The program provided the young participants with a comprehensive entrepreneurial education through five quests in diverse fields including Creative Thinking, Banking, Sports, E-commerce, Renewable Energy, and the Creative Industry. The far-reaching impact of the challenge is seen in its impressive reach – 20,388 learners engaged, 1,800 teachers trained, and 970 schools across 42 counties involved.
The Global Peace Foundation Kenya, which runs the #leaphubs programme and the Great Places to School School, expressed enthusiasm at partnering with #WavumbuziKE, championing the cause of entrepreneurship. The goal of this collaboration is to cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators who will lead the charge in the country’s development.
The 2023 Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge Awards Ceremony was a testament to the potential, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit among Kenya’s youth.
