Global Peace Foundation Kenya through its County Ambassadors program organized and carried out the final coursework discussion on Environmental Conservation and Climate Change.

The training which brought together the county representatives was conducted by Ms. Damaris Mungai, Youth and Gender Portfolio, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Africa. In her approach and experience on how to deal with environmental activism and climate action, Ms. Mungai stressed on actionable plans which can start from individual and spread to the society in curbing further environmental degradation especially in Africa setup.

She was impressed by the county ambassadors’ concept as a way of promoting environmental conservation, acknowledging the necessity for a representation in different parts of the country to achieve such a noble course.

In addition, Ms. Mungai as a field expert, encouraged the ambassadors to take Climate Action as an investment opportunity which can yield financial and economic benefits apart from restoring the earth.

“Use of clean energy, forestation and practicing of smart agriculture are some of the ways through which we can curb environmental degradation and global warming as we try to restore what is lost already.” Said Ms. Mungai.

To sum up her input on how best to protect Africa’s environment and resources, she rallied the current generation to foresee beyond two decades to come and take immediate action to preserve, restore and protect mother earth.

This was the final series of the quarterly trainings for the 1st cohort of our county ambassadors which previously tackled topics such as; Peacebuilding, Leadership & Community Development, Entrepreneurship and Business Development.

Notably, the county ambassadors have been implementing various programs in the counties they represent and playing major roles as change makers in the society.  GPF-Kenya on the other hand, has offered them a platform to share ideas, market their programs, get publication and undergo necessary trainings to equip them with knowledge and skills in their areas of specialization.

GPF Kenya Country Director, Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi commended the exemplary commitment which the ambassadors have shown in supporting the implementation, coordination and networking of our programs in various counties and appreciated the project lead Mr. Samuel Budoi who has been in the frontline to ensure smooth implementation of programs and team work with the ambassadors.
