The Global Peace Foundation Kenya joined the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) for the launch of #ProPeaceKenya project at the Radisson Blu Hotel on the 13th May 2022.
The launch of the project also known as Elections Bila Noma comes as the country prepares for the August 9th General Election. GPF Kenya which has an MOU with NCIC was represented at the launch by its CEO Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi Mr. Vincent Ayako.
Speakers at the event included the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr. Fred Matiangi, the Chairman of NCIC Rev. Samuel Kobia, Ambasador Erastus Mwencha, Ms. Anne Ireri Elog Chair and FIDA Kenya Executive Director, Dr Skitter Ocharo CEO NCIC and many other dignitaries.
The Pro-Peace Kenya Project aims at promoting peace and cohesion in #Kenya by preventing and mitigating electoral conflict. the project has been financed by the European Union with 3.5million euro through the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) and will be implemented by ECES in an 18 months time span. It comprises of the following components, namely: Support to National Commission and Integration Commission (NCIC), Independent and Election Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and support to the Media to promote peace, cohesion and political dialogue and to prevent, mitigate and manage conflicts and political and election-related conflict and violence ahead of the new electoral cycle in Kenya.
NCIC Chair Rev. Kobia said that the partnership with ECES will provide NCIC staff and other peace actors with bespoke & tailor made training on how to handle electoral cycles & the challenges thereof. “This training will be available to the wider peace actors within our ambit with whom we have synergies” he added.
“ECES promotes electoral and democratic strengthening through the provision of advisory services, operational support and management of large projects mainstreaming capacity and leadership development, via peer exchanges and comparative experiences, dialogue and the prevention and mitigation of electoral conflicts.” said Amb. Filiberto Sebregondi Vice President, @ECESeu Strategic and Advisory Committe.
“Elections all over the world should be a celebration of human rights. It is encouraging that we are all gathered here for this course as is stipulated in the kenyan Constitution 2010. ELOG is committed to ensuring we go through an #ElectionsBilaNoma,” said Ms. Anne Ireri.
The Global Peace Foundation Kenya has an MOU with the NCIC and will continue collaborating on the #ProPeaceKenya project.
