Global Peace Foundation Kenya

The International Day of Peace 2022 was celebrated in a special and colourful way by Global Peace Foundation Kenya and its partners, to mark and acknowledge the tremendous efforts we have put in place to promote a peaceful country and a coexistence society.

The event which was hosted at Daystar University, Nairobi Campus, brought together top organizations and partners to appreciate the value of peace in our country, as one way of promoting development, unity and prosperity.

He was very positive on how Kenya has made strides in shunning racism and appeal for a strong united world where everyone feels appreciated, in line with this years’ theme of “End Racism: Build Peace,” more so after the hotly contested general elections in the country.

Addressing over 300 participants and panelists who attend the event, our Country Director Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi, encouraged the youths, especially those who are still training at the tertiary level to enroll into peace initiatives and be the ambassadors of a united country, committed to good governance, democracy, accountability and stability.

He applauded Kenyans for being peaceful and accepting the outcome of the elections, even though some people did not agree with it.

Dr. Vimal Shah Giving his Speech

Giving his presentation at the fully packed Daystar University-Auditorium, Dr. Vimal Shah, who is a businessman, an entrepreneur and chairman of Mkenya Daima Initiative, talked about the power of peace though avoidance of racism, discrimination, tribalism and the power of volunteerism.

He also reflected on losing his brother during the Westgate attack in Nairobi, 9 years ago, expressing his desire to see a country inspired to succeed and give conducive working environment to investors.

Speaking at the same occasion on behalf of European Union, Ms. Katrin Hagemann, who is the deputy ambassador, European Union delegation to Kenya, critically dwelt on preventing and countering violence extremism though peace education.

“We were happy as election observers to hear from Kenyans, committing to maintain peace, irrespective of elections outcome, rooting her presentation on the sub-theme of the day which was “A redeemed Country from a Peaceful Elections.”

Other panelists who also graced the occasion include: Dr. Skitter Ocharo, who is the Chief Executive Officer, National Cohesion and integration Commission, Dr. John Warari Wakabu, Executive Board Member, Interreligious Council of Kenya and Professor Michael Bowen, Principal, Daystar University, Nairobi campus.

The event was a joint partnership between Global Peace Foundation Kenya, Standard Media Group, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Mkenya Daima Initiative, European Union, Daystar University, Global Peace and Development Service Alliance among others.
